Sabían que… En esta misma fecha pero del año 1937, el Gral. Lázaro Cárdenas del Río, en su carácter de Presidente de la República, promulgó el Decreto de la Nacionalización de la Empresa: Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México, fundamentado en la Ley de Expropiación, promulgada en 1936.
La Empresa, se creó en 1908, al fusionarse, diferentes capitales extranjeros con el capital nacional que representaba más del 50% del valor total tasado, siendo socio mayoritario. Con el pasar de los años, la Empresa se enfrentó a graves problemas, la competencia de autobuses, de aeroplanos y a las presiones de los trabajadores, que exigían mejores salarios, a ello se debió la intervención del Estado, para la nacionalización de FERRONALES.
Un año después del Decreto Expropiatorio, el Presidente, Cárdenas del Río, entregó la Empresa a los trabajadores ferroviarios para que ellos la administraran. Entre 1996 y 1998, Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León, vendió a Ferronales, entregándola mediante concesiones, por 20 y 50 años y venta en efectivo a grupos, como Ferromex y Peñoles, lo que causó la posterior extinción de la empresa, como medio de transporte, público y de carga.
