- Sabían que… El 03 de julio de 1955, las Mujeres mexicanas, votaron por vez primera, en elecciones Federales después de muchos años de lucha.
¡¡SI!!, las mexicanas acudieron a las urnas a votar para elegir a los Diputados Federales que integrarían la XLIII Legislatura del Congreso de la Unión, gracias a mujeres ejemplares, como Hermila Galindo, Elvia Carrillo Puerto, Belen Gutiérrez, María Lavalle y muchas más luchadoras, pioneras incansables, en favor del reconocimiento constitucional y social, de todos los derechos de las mujeres de México, incluyendo el de votar y ser votada.
En 1938, el Presidente Lázaro Cárdenas, fue el primero, en presentar ante el Congreso Federal, una Iniciativa para otorgarles el pleno goce de sus derechos políticos a las mujeres, misma que se aprobó y fue enviada a los Congresos Locales, para su aprobación también, pero no pudo ser promulgada porque no se realizó el cómputo final. En 1953, el Presidente, Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, retomó la Iniciativa, misma que fue aprobada y publicada, en el Diario Oficial de la Federación, el 17 de octubre de 1953.
La participación de la ONU, fue muy importante para alcanzar este logro, gracias a su llamado dirigido a todos los países integrantes, para que reconocieran los derechos políticos de las mujeres, ya que «no podía considerarse democrático, un país, si más de la mitad de su población, (mujeres), no participaba en la toma de decisiones».
