5 de enero.- El gobierno de Irán anunció que ha dado el quinto y último paso de reducción de sus compromisos operativos fijados en el Plan de Acción Conjunta (JCPOA) de 2015, que le limitaban el número de centrifugadoras usadas para el enriquecimiento de uranio.

Lo anterior significa que el programa nuclear iraní ya no enfrenta ninguna restricción operacional, incluyendo su capacidad de enriquecimiento de uranio y su cantidad, así como en las tareas de investigación y desarrollo, señaló un comunicado gubernamental.

De aquí en adelante, el programa nuclear de Irán será desarrollado sólo con base en sus necesidades técnicas, dijo el documento citado por la agencia iraní de noticias Mehr.

Se aclaró que seguirá la cooperación con el Órgano Internacional de Energía Nuclear (IAEA), cuyos inspectores eran los encargados de vigilar el cumplimiento del JCPOA, pactado en 2015.

También se precisó que si las sanciones establecidas por Estados Unidos son levantadas e Irán se beneficia, regresará a sus compromisos.

Sin salir del JCPOA Irán virtualmente rompió con sus compromisos pactados en el documento negociado con los cinco miembros permanentes del Consejo de Seguridad (China, Estados Unidos, Francia, Reino Unido y Rusia) más Alemania.

En 2018 Estados Unidos salió de ese acuerdo, alegando el incumplimiento iraní de lo pactado, a pesar de las evaluaciones positivas de los inspectores de la IAEA, y para obligar a Teherán a renegociarlo le impuso diversas sanciones vigentes a la fecha.

A partir de esa situación Irán comenzó a revertir sus compromisos, como primer paso aumentó sus existencias de uranio enriquecido más allá de los 300 kilogramos pactados en el JCPOA.

Luego reinició el enriquecimiento de uranio a porcentajes superiores al 3.76 por ciento, acordado en ese documento.

En tercer lugar Irán reaunudó la operación de centrifugadoras avanzadas para ampliar las reservas de uranio enriquecido, además de poner en marcha 20 equipos de centrifugación IR-4 y otras 20 IR-6 con fines de investigación y desarrollo.

El cuarto paso ocurrió el pasado noviembre, cuando cuando inyectó gas de nuevo en las centrifugadoras de la planta de Fordow.
