Este día fue instituido a partir de 1999, con el objeto de reconocerle al género masculino, su participación y aportaciones en beneficio de la sociedad en la que se desenvuelve. También para promover la igualdad de género, abordar temas de salud propios de varones y de la sociedad en general, como:

a).- Atender su salud y bienestar personal, responsablemente.

b).- Denunciar la descriminación contra los hombres.

c).- Reconocer la contribución de los varones, dentro de la sociedad.

d).- Promover en todos los ámbitos un modelo de masculinidad actualizado.

e).- Mejorar las relaciones entre los géneros y promover con actitudes y acciones, la igualdad entre ambos.
